COLUMBUS – Columbus police were investigating the latest homicide in the city, the fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man on the West Side late Wednesday.
Officers alerted by the ShotSpotter system responded to a possible shooting in the 1800 block of Sullivant Avenue at 11:51 p.m. and found an unresponsive man lying in an alley, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Officers rendered first but the man was pronounced dead at the scene by Columbus paramedics, Sgt. David Shimberg of the Homicide Unit said.
The victim’s name was being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
This is the 162nd homicide of 2021 in Columbus.
Body found on Southwest Side
Columbus police are investigating a possible murder after remains that appeared to be human were found in a Southwest Side home Wednesday morning.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Office SWAT officers found the remains while executing a search warrant in the 1800 block of Bashan Drive just after 9:00 a.m., Sgt. James Marable of the Columbus Homicide Unit said.
Police did not confirm that the case was a homicide and the investigation is continuing.

Teen shot on East Side street
A 16-year-old girl was recovering in a local hospital after police say she was shot in the arm on the East Side Wednesday afternoon.
The girl told officers she was win the area of E. 23rd Street and Joyce Avenue at about 4:45 p.m. when she heard gunshots and felt pain in her left arm. She realized she had been shot and a family member drove her to the hospital.
