COLUMBUS – A man killed during a shootout outside a Reynoldsburg-area duplex Friday night was one of nine people shot over the weekend in Columbus.
Homicide Unit detectives say a group of people were arguing outside 2878 Continental Drive at approximately 7:40 p.m. when there was an exchange of gunfire and Dejon Jordan was wounded.
Officers found Jordan, 22, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and he was taken by Madison Township paramedics to Mount Carmel East Hospital where he died at 8:27, Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit said.
Following the shooting, witnesses reported that an SUV fled the scene northbound on Continental Drive, striking a parked vehicle as it left. Marable says the SUV is described as white, possibly a Nissan, and may have a broken passenger side window and front end damage.
Anyone with information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of the suspect vehicle is asked to call Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
This is the 21st homicide in Columbus in 2021.
Five women and three men, including a 17-year-old girl and a would-be burglar shot by his intended victim, were injured in separate incidents between Friday afternoon and late Sunday night.
The teen was injured when she was hit by a bullet fired into her home on Drew Heights Place from outside just before 9:00 p.m. Saturday night, police said.
Marlan Everson, 25, of Youngstown, forced his way into a home in the 300 block of E. 15th Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday and pointed a firearm at the resident who fired several shots at Everson, striking him multiple times, Det. Mautez Fulton of the Felony Assault Unit said.
Everson was in stable condition and was not cooperative with investigators and Fulton says the 19-year-old resident is refusing to press charges against him.
The other victims include a 26-year-old woman who was shot when someone fired approximately 30 rounds into the home where she was lying in bed late Friday night and a man and woman shot while police say they were driving in the area of E. 25th Avenue and Ontario Street Friday afternoon.
