COLUMBUS – A project to shore up State Route 315 in southern Delaware County enters a new phase Monday morning when an additional stretch of the roadway closes for several weeks.

At 5:00 a.m., 315 will close from State Route 750 (Powell Road) north to Retreat Lane for 3 ½ months for construction of a wall intended to help will stabilize the slope that supports State Route 315 between Jewett Road and the Powell city limits and to lessen the effects of erosion, Ohio Department of Transportation District 6 spokeswoman Nancy Burton said.
The detour for traffic north of SR 750 is SR 750 to U.S. Route 23 to SR 315 or reverse. The detour for traffic south of the intersection is SR 750 to US 23 to I-270 to SR 315.
Burton says wall construction will occur during daytime hours only and is scheduled for completion on May 8. During the closures, SR 750 will remain open in both directions.
ODOT is employing a variety of measures aimed at reducing heavy truck traffic on northbound SR 315 as long as the closure is in place, Burton said.
A high-tech method is the use of CB Wizard, which is a device that sits near the construction location and automatically broadcasts an alert message to commercial trucks and big rigs over any CB channel, she said. ODOT and many other transportation agencies around the nation use the CB wizard to message delays and detours before a driver approaches the work zone.

ODOT will also use orange “travel time” signs (pictured) on U.S. Route 23 at the 315 interchange and on 315 north of Bethel Road indicating that SR 315 is closed,
In addition to the standard road closed and detour signs, Burton says ODOT has added signs notifying drivers of the road closure on SR 315 north at Hard Road and a message Board on northbound 315 at the Delaware County water plan, which has a driveway wide enough for truck to turn around before getting to Jewett Road.
The department has also requested a message board on northbound SR 315 at SR 161 saying thru truck traffic and turn-arounds are prohibited.
Overhead digital signs on I-270 may also be used to warn of the closure, Burton said.
