COLUMBUS – A section of downtown Columbus was blocked off and some evacuations were ordered Wednesday morning after a bank robber threatened to set off an explosive.

Police say the man walked into the PNC Bank branch at 155 E. Broad at 9:15 a.m. and handed a teller a note demanding cash and imp-lying that he had a bomb in a bag he left behind, according to investigators from the Columbus Police Robbery Unit.
Police closed E. Broad Street between 3rd and 5th Streets and witnesses say workers were evacuated from buildings around PNC Plaza and remained outside for about 90 minutes before the Division of Fire Bomb Squad determined there was no explosive.
The suspect is described as 25 to 30 years old, weighing about 160 pounds, with a beard with no mustache. He was wearing a cream colored coat, jeans, and red colored shoes.
