Couple’s murder-suicide mystifiying

COLUMBUS – Authorities in Delaware are baffled by an apparent murder-suicide involving a Lewis Center couple whose bodies were found at Alum Creek State Park Sunday.

Deputies searching for Todd and Rachel Reutzel Sunday afternoon found their bodies access road to Alum Creek beach at about 5:00 p.m., said Tracy Whited, Delaware County Sheriff’s Office community and media relations manager. Both were pronounced dead from gunshot wounds.

Deputies responding to a call received at the sheriff’s office at 4:10 p.m. from concerned family members who hadn’t heard from the Reutzels first checked their Aurora Avenue home before they found Rachel’s body in the couple’s vehicle on the access road to Alum Creek State Park beach, Whited said.

Shortly thereafter, Whited says, they found the body of Todd Reutzel, 41, about 75 yards away.

The investigation is continuing but investigators believe Todd Reutzel took his own life after shooting his 33-year-old wife, Whited said.

Authorities say they had no recent prior history at with either of the Reutzels or at their home.

Todd Reutzel was a lawyer specializing in real-estate law and Rachel Reutzel was a governance manager at BMW Financial Services, according to a report in The Columbus Dispatch.

The Genoa Township Police, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Preservation Parks of Delaware County and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations are assisting in the investigation.
