East Side freeway shooting incident

COLUMBUS – A 54-year-old man told police someone shot at him while he was driving on I-70 on the East Side, the latest in a rash of freeway shooting incidents in Columbus this year.

Sean Rogers told officers he was driving his white work van eastbound on the interstate between Alum Creek Drive and US-33 at approximately 12:34 p.m. when his passenger side window was shot out by gunfire, Det. Adam Federer of the Felony Assault Unit said.

Rogers told investigators he was initially behind a gray or silver SUV or minivan and saw a man in the front passenger seat hang out the window and fire gunshots at a gold or brown vehicle.

Rogers said an unidentified tractor-trailer driver unintentionally got in the path of gunfire and may have been struck and Rogers told police his vehicle was struck when traffic suddenly stopped and he was lined up with the shooter’s vehicle, Federer said.

No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Federer at 614-645-4011 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS(614-461-8477).
