The accident, which was reported shortly before 8:00 a.m. approximately one half-mile west of the exit to Alum Creek Drive, left a 32-year-old Columbus man dead, said Sheriff Dallas Baldwin.

John Diddle was driving his 2003 Harley-Davidson eastbound on I-270 on the South Side when witnesses say traffic slowed down abruptly in front him just west of Alum Creek Drive, Baldwin said.

Diddle’s motorcycle struck the rear of a dark colored pickup truck and Diddle was thrown from the bike and struck by a red SUV, Baldwin said.

Neither the dark truck nor the red SUV remained on scene after the crash.

Anyone with any information about the vehicles was asked to call the sheriff’s department at 614-525-3333.

Interstate 270 was shut down in both directions between US 33 and I-71 for several hours during the investigation.
