COLUMBUS – Two men died in separate shooting incidents in Columbus over the weekend, raising the city’s 2020 death toll to 165.
Officers responding to a report of shots fired near the intersection of S. High Street and Reeb Avenue on the South Side just before 6:00 p.m. Saturday found an unidentified man who had been shot during a fight inside a duplex at 2 Reeb Avenue and was pronounced dead at the scene, Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit said.
UPDATE 12/22/20 7:52 a.m.: The victim in this shooting has been identified as Yiarad Tesfai, 26.
A 61-year-old man, whose name was not released, was found suffering from a gunshot wound in front of a home in the 1000 block of S. 22nd Avenue at 3:19 a.m. Friday, Sgt. Terry McConnell said. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:03 a.m. despite efforts to save his life.

The victims were two of five people shot in Columbus over the weekend.
Authorities say two men who came to a hospital with gunshot wounds reported being fired upon as they were driving on an East Side interstate Friday afternoon.
Matthew McClain, 23, and Jerris Hayes, 19, went to the hospital just before 2:00 p.m. with gunshot wounds to their arms and torso which did not appear life-threatening, police said
The two men said they had been driving west on I-70 approaching I-71 when they heard several gunshots and realized they had been struck, said Det. Steven Kaethow of the Felony Assault Unit.
The men told police they did not believe they were the intended target and didn’t want to pursue charges, Kaethow said.
A 21-year-old man was in stable condition after being shot while walking on Loretta Avenue near McGuffey Road Sunday afternoon.
