COLUMBUS – A hero’s escort through the streets of Hilliard is part of the memorial and funeral events planned for a Hilliard police officer who died in a motorcycle crash last week.
A procession of Hilliard police officers and Norwich Township firefighters will escort Johnson’s body from a downtown Columbus funeral home to a church in Westerville beginning at approximately 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, police division spokeswoman Hyda Slone said.
The procession will start at 1:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 229 E. State Street, and will travel through Hilliard, allowing members of the community to pay their respects, then will proceed to St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic in Westerville, Slone said.
The procession will travel west on I-70, north on I-270, west on Cemetery Road, north on Main Street through Old Hilliard, passing First Responders Park at approximately 1:20 p.m., Slone said (see map above).
The procession will continue eastbound on Northwest Parkway, passing the headquarters of the Hilliard Division of Police, then will turn north on Leap Road, east on Davidson Road, south on Trueman Boulevard and west on Cemetery Road to I-270 to begin making its way to the church at 313 N. State Street.
Visitation & Viewing – Tuesday, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 313 N. State Street. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 – 7:30 p.m.
The funeral will be held at St. Paul Church beginning at 10:30 a.m. (note time change).
Immediately following the funeral service there will be a procession to and a graveside service with full police honors at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 N High Street, Lewis Center.
The procession will go from St. Paul Church, west on County Line Road, south on Worthington Road, to south Worthington-Galena Road, west on Campus View Boulevard and north on U.S. 23 (N. High Street) to Resurrection Cemetery.
