COLUMBUS – Columbus police are still searching for a man who reportedly asked for a job application at an East Side pizza shop before shooting the manager during an apparent holdup.
The man entered the Papa John’s in the 2900 block of E. Main Street at 10:15 p.m. Sunday night and asked for a job application, according to media reports, then shot the 26-year-old manager, who was taken to Grant Medical Center in stable condition.
The masked man brandished a black semiautomatic pistol as he walked behind the counter where the manager grabbed him and the two began to fight over the handgun, Det. Kenneth Kirby of the Columbus police robbery unit said.
The suspect was knocked to the ground fired two shots, striking the victim in the left shoulder, before the suspect ran out of the store on foot without getting any property, Kirby said.
Police crime scene investigators recovered two shell casings at the scene and Kirby says security video was reviewed.
