COLUMBUS – Columbus police have arrested a homeless man and a Far East Side woman in connection with two robbery/murders.
Homicide detectives filed two murder charges against Trevor Scott Sands and one against Monae Alize Cox in connection with the deaths of Jeannot Mendy on April 24 and Gerald Talley on May 8, Homicide Unit Sgt. Stanley Latta said.
Latta says Sands, 21, allegedly shot Mendy to death while Mendy, 32, working in his garage in front of his home on Lowridge Drive during an apparent robbery attempt. Latta says sands was in possession of forensic evidence linking him to the crime when Sands and Cox were arrested by Gahanna police for armed robbery on Saturday.
Cox, 19, admitted to investigators that she drove Sands to the area where 63-year-old Gerald Talley was shot and killed inside his Kelton Avenue home. Latta says Cox admitted to transporting Sands to the area of the Talley slaying to commit a robbery but said Talley was not the intended victim.
Latta says several other suspects may be involved and the investigation is continuing.
