Mother indicted in 5-year-old son’s drowning death

COLUMBUS – A woman has been indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child endangering after police say she left her young sons unattended and one of them drowned in a pool at an East Side apartment complex in July.

A Franklin County Grand Jury on Monday indicted Tamisha Jones in the death of 5-year-old Kye Allen, who drowned in a pool on Hibernia Lane after investigators say Jones, 24, left Kye and his 3-year-old brother “unattended for an extended period of time” in their apartment, Sgt. James Marable of the Homicide Unit said.

At some point the children left the residence and walked to the pool and the older boy went into the water, Marable said.

Officers were called to the area at 7:16 p.m. and found that bystanders had pulled Kye from the water and where rendering aid. Marable says the first responding officers administered CPR until relieved by paramedics with the Columbus Division of Fire who transported the boy to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in life-threatening condition.

Kye died a week later as a result of his injuries, Marable said.

Jones was indicted on one count of involuntary manslaughter, a felony of the first degree; one count of child endangerment, a felony of the third degree, and one misdemeanor count of child endangerment, Marable said.

This is considered to be the 123rd homicide of 2020 in Columbus.
