COLUMBUS – The Clippers opened a four-game weekend series with International League West division rival Toledo with a 5-3 loss at Huntington Park Thursday night.
The Clippers didn’t get on the board until the sixth inning when Abraham Almonte hit a solo home run and Giovanny Urshela scored on a single by Chris Colabello to make the score 5-2.
Columbus scored again in the seventh on a homer by Eric Stamets, but that would be all they would get.
Clippers starter Julian Merryweather (3-1) gave up four runs in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss while Matthew Boyd struck out seven and gave up only two runs on four hits to get the win for the Mud Hens.
The two teams play again Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
