Next chapter of storied series unfolds in South Bend

COLUMBUS – Buckeye head coach Ryan Day says the offense is going to “let it rip” in South Bend tomorrow night when two of college football’s biggest brands – Ohio State & Notre Dame — meet in a prime-time game.

This is the fifth straight time since 1996 that the Buckeyes and Fighting Irish will meet while both are ranked in the top 10. The Buckeyes have won five straight, including 21-10 last year in Columbus.

“Two of the bigger teams in the Midwest getting together for a home-and-home. You know, last year’s atmosphere was electric, it’ll be the same way on Saturday night,” Day told reporters Tuesday.

Ohio State’s last loss to the Irish was in 1936 but this team will be no pushover.

quarterback Sam Hartman, who already has 13 touchdown passes and is very much in the Heisman Trophy conversation, will go against an Ohio State defense that has allowed a total of 20 points through three games.

Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord has found a nice rhythm with six TD passes the last two weeks.

Irish head coach Marcus Freeman is a Huber Heights native who played for Ohio State from 2004 to 2008, a run that included two trips to the BCS National Championship game.
