Storms hit Columbus area

COLUMBUS – Strong thunderstorms packing high winds, hail and heavy rains moved through central Ohio Tuesday, knocking down trees and power lines and damaging buildings but causing no reported injuries.

The weather system prompted the National Weather Service to issue a tornado watch for all of central Ohio until 9:00 p.m.

There were still scattered power outages early Wednesday in Franklin, Fairfield and Pickaway counties.

Photos on social media showed damage to a silo and barn on state Route 674 in Fairfield County, where trees and power lines were also reported knocked down, according to the weather service website

A tree fell on a house on Lithopolis Road near Lancaster and large trees were reported knocked down on Nicholas Drive in Circleville.

High winds knocked over a tractor-trailer on I-71 in Fayette County, where about 10 campers at Buckeye RV in Jeffersonville were overturned, a barn was damaged and multiple power poles were snapped, blocking roadways, the weather service reported.

At least one tree was reported knocked down on Knapp Drive in Grove City,

The weather service reported hail as large as ping-pong balls fell near Baltimore, in Fairfield County.
