COLUMBUS – The number of homicides in Columbus this year increased to 62 this week with the death of a 15-year-old who died in a shootout with another teenager on the Southeast Side Tuesday afternoon.
The fatal shooting came hours after the death of a man who was found in an alley in the OSU campus area, prompting a neighborhood safety alert from university police.
Detectives say 15-year-old Trevon Dickson died at Mount Carmel East Hospital just after 4:30 p.m. after he was allegedly shot during an exchange of gunfire with another 15-year in the 3200 block of Marion Place.
Someone dropped Nasir Ndiaye off at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and drove away. Ndiaye was treated for a gunshot wound and then charged with murder, Sgt. James Marable of the Columbus police Homicide Unit said.
Investigators say Ndiaye shot Dickson, who was able to return fire before collapsing.
This is the 62nd homicide of the year in Columbus.
Officers investigating a report of a shooting in the 200 block of E. 15th Avenue just after 3:35 a.m. found Dell Fields jr. suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, Sgt. David Shimberg said.
Officers performed first aid but Fields, 33, died later at OSU Wexner Medical Center, the 61st homicide victim of the year.

A Reynoldsburg man has been charged with felonious assault in the shooting of a 16-year-old girl on the Far Southeast Side Thursday afternoon, Sgt. Doug Jones of the Felony Assault Unit said.
The teen was in stable condition.
Police say she was walking home from a bus stop in the 3000 block of Gladsmore Court just before 2:41 p.m. when she was struck by gunfire from a passing vehicle.
Witnesses were able to provide a description of the vehicle description and located it about an hour later.
Jones says Avonte Sanford, 20, was identified as the suspect.

Police are looking for a 20-year-old man in connection with a triple shooting at an AirBNB on the South Side in January that left a woman dead.
Kendale Mardis, of Urbancrest has been charged with the death of Shamaya Dickerson, who was shot along with another woman and a man during a party at a house in the 300 block of Whittier Street early on the morning of January 10, Shimberg said.
