Three dead in separate incidents

COLUMBUS – Three people have been killed in two separate shooting incidents as an outbreak of violence continued to claim lives in Columbus.

Two men died early Saturday in a shooting at a Hilltop bar that also left two men injured and a woman died after being shot at an East Side convenience store.

Six people have died in four deadly shootings since Thursday, raising the number of homicides committed in Columbus this year to 74.

A 39-year-old man died at the scene and a second man died at the hospital following a shooting at Cain’s Sports Bar in the 3400 block of Sullivant Avenue at approximately 2:05 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. James Marable of the Columbus police homicide unit said.

Officers responding to a reported shooting inside the bar found three men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

An unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene and Marable says Denver Spencer, 30, was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in critical condition, where he died later. was pronounced deceased at 2:57AM.

A 41-year-old man was listed in stable condition at Grant Medical Center and a 25-year-old man was treated at another location for a grazing gunshot wound suffered during the incident, Marable said.

The name of the 39-year-old victim was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A 30-year-old woman died after being caught in the crossfire during a shootout between two groups of people outside a convenience store the 3200 Block of E. Broad Street at approximately 8:41 p.m. Saturday, according to Sgt. Edward Powell III of the homicide unit.

A Good Samaritan provided first aid to Lelia King until Columbus police officers and paramedics from Columbus and Whitehall arrived and took her to Mount Carmel East Hospital where she died later, Powell said.

King was in between two groups of suspects shooting at each other and was struck by the gunfire, Powell said.
