Investigators say Danielle Ennis initially told police that that she had found John Mazara when she returned to his Gadwell Road home at approximately 4:39 p.m. and discovered that he had been shot, said Sgt. Jeffrey Strayer of the Homicide Unit.
Mazara, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene.
While Ennis claimed in her initial statements to police that she had found Mazara, Strayer said further questioning and examination of physical evidence led investigators to determine that Ennis was responsible for the fatal shooting.
She was arrested and charged with murder. The investigation continues, Strayer said.
This is the 19th homicide in Columbus this year.
