Woman dies in Hilltop shooting

COLUMBUS – Police are investigating a shooting that killed a woman in the Hilltop neighborhood on the West Side early Saturday.

Officers were called to the area of Floral Avenue and Belvidere Avenue just after 1:30 a.m. following a ShotSpotter alert that gunshots had been fired.

While en route to the location, additional calls came in reporting a shooting at a home in the 100 block of Belvidere Avenue.

Upon arrival officers located Jamika Ann Tashawna Summerville, who was suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Homicide Unit detectives.

Officers rendered aid until Columbus Division of Fire paramedics arrived and transported Summerville, 25, to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 2:16 a.m., police said.

According to media reports, Summerville was a special education teacher in the Columbus City Schools.

The motive for the shooting is unknown and there was no information on suspects available.
